Chapter Four

I've never had coffee before but Salem drinks 2 cups every morning so I thought I'd try it. The first sip I take I nearly spit back into my cup. It tastes bitter and earthy, as I swallow my hot sipe I give Salem a repulse look and he nearly bursts out into tears he was laughing so hard.
"Oh common it isn't that bad."
"Salem this stuff is shit."
"Well I know somthing that can help with that."
He gets up and starts rummaging threw all our boxes, this is our first day in our house and we haven't fully had time to un pack. We where..... Preoccupied. He returns to our little breakfast table with somthing hidden under his bathrobe.
"Voila"
He says as he plops down a little glass container full of sugar.
"The key to coffee." I say laughing at how dramatic he was over a little bit of sugar. I watch him as he opens the glass lid and drops 3 spoonfuls of sugar into his coffee, attempting to look normal, I too put 3 scoops in, then a fourth, then a fifth. I mimick him stirring my coffee and every so often smelling it to see how sweat it's becoming. When I finally take a sip I descover that it's marvelously sweet and bitter. Within a few minutes I have drank the entire cup.
"You know, I'm going to have to go back to work eventually."
I sigh "I know, I'm gonna be lonely here."
"Not nessecairly, you could get a job" He looks up from his cup of coffee " I mean a full time job, other than being a dancer."
He still doesn't know about my previouse job, I feel bad, I don't want to tell him about it but what if he finds out. "Ya I suppose your right, I mean I have to help pay the mortgage right?" He smiles, happy that I'm not offended. I'm happy he doesn't see me as a typical house wife, just there to raise the children. If I ever do have kids of course I'll take time off until they go to school but now that I've had the chance to start again I want to have a fully professional career.
"What do you think you would want to do?"
What do I like to do. I remember when I was a child I used to play in my doll house but eventually got board of how it looked so I took the news paper and styled the house. Now that I think about it, I love to style my houses, when we moved in here just yesterday I made a mental note of what I wanted to improve on the house.
"I think I want to be an architect." I say proudly. He looks up at me and gives an approving nod. Then he stands up, kisses me on the top of my head and goes to take a shower.

                                                                                ➰
"So, Ms.Denim, what makes you think you're good for the job."
I shrug my shoulders, really there isn't any good reason they should hier me other than I would love this job. He looks me up and down trying to processe who I am.
"Your hired!"
"Really? I mean thank you so much, I won't disappoint you."
He smiles as we shake hands, the paperwork he gives me is astonishing. It's paper after paper and I have to read all of them. After where done in his tiny office he takes me around to meet all of my co-workers. They seem like average people, never getting into trouble, always with a fake smile on their faces. I guess they've never had to cope with the bad side of the world. When we get to my cube he shows me how to work the computer and phone.
"Well looky who we have here."
I turn around towards the voice and I see a talk thin man with a little mustache just over his upper lip and a blue face. It takes me a few seconds to recognize him.
"Oh my god Sky I haven't seen you for ages." Sky was one of my best friends when I was in school. He lived in the blue sector of the city so we where aloud to hang out after school. Then it got really awkward because we got together at the end of high school and when we graduated he proposed. Of course I said no because I wasn't ready. But now in my newly started life we can be friends again.
"I haven't seen you in forever, did you move?" He asks.
"Naw I lived in the greys for a while but now I'm in the rainbow part of town."
"The rainbow part! How can you afford that?"
"Well me and Salem used our life funds and well we still have a pretty big mortgage."
When I look at his face all I see is disappointment.
"Who's Salem?"
"He's my boyfriend."
And at that his face goes blank and leaves. I don't know what he expected, did he want me to wait for him for seven years. My boss looks at me with a question on his lips then decides not to  ask it.
"So can you be here tomorrow then?"
I nod and grab my coat. "See ya tomorrow."

"Dinner really is lovely Salem."
I feel like it's a holiday, he's made a huge dish of seafood and even has pored some nectar. He smiles and grab my hand.
"Mal I really love you, usually I would ask permission for this kinda thing but that doesn't apply here."
I smile, I know he loves me. The first time he told me that was one of the nights in his apartment when I would breakdown. He would hold me in his arm like a little baby and tells me he loves me. But this is different, his face is sweaty and he looks scared. Oh no, he's going to break up with me isn't he or tell me he cheated. I can't have that right now, I've fallen in love and I can't have my heart broken right now. He gets up with tears in his eyes and comes around to my side of the table. Then he gets down on one leg.
"Malibu Denim, for years I have dream of the perfect girl, the one I want to spend the rest of my life with, who will be the mother of my children. But one unexpected night I found her, and I love her very much. I love you, will you marry me?"
